Information technology should be used proactively to promote tourism nationally and internationally: LS Speaker


New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Lok Sabha President Om Birla on Monday focused on the use of information technology tools in promoting tourism nationally and internationally.

Delivering a keynote address today at the Tourism for Inclusive Growth program organized by the Ministry of Tourism to mark World Tourism Day 2021, Birla said committed and collective efforts will ensure India becomes the best tourist destination in the world.

Tourism is one of the engines of economic growth and employment, he said. Therefore, special attention is needed for the further development of this sector, Birla added.

Speaking on the roadmap to boost tourism, the president of Lok Sabha suggested that ambitious and sustained efforts are needed to promote rural tourism.

This will strengthen the rural economy by creating demand for handicrafts and other rural products, he said.

On this occasion, speaker Lok Sabha launched NIDHI 2.0 (National Integrated Hospitality Industry Database) and published “Tourism Statistics India: At a Glance, 2021”. The NIDHI 2.0 database that was released today will be an important step in this endeavor, Birla hopes.

The Ministry of Tourism, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to actively promote and support “sustainability initiatives” in the tourism sector. , which was also traded during the event.

Addressing the rally, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said: “The tourism sector is one of the few sectors that has suffered greatly from this pandemic and the rapid recovery in tourism is very important for the recovery and growth of this sector. ‘

“To date, India has already administered more than 85 million doses of vaccination to its citizens. With the aggressive vaccination strategy underway, we are now getting closer to reopening the country to tourism at the start of the new year, ”he said.

“I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his relentless focus on immunization,” he added.

Reddy said: “The Prime Minister’s vision has been to use tourism as a tool for job creation and inclusive development. The tourism sector has the highest job creation potential among the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, he added.
