Help wanted: Lenoir County Information Technology Department

WAGE SCALE: $ 46,367 – $ 68,832

JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs support to users of the computerized environment, including network planning, research, development and troubleshooting. Troubleshooting includes hardware and software issues related to a variety of platforms and systems in the county. Maintenance, on-site training and other assistance for the efficient operation of the information system include future and existing systems. This position is used to test new applications, monitor system backups, document procedures, load software, establish networks and program computer information system functions. The work also includes organizing databases. The work requires troubleshooting problems with equipment or applications and an understanding of existing computer applications and equipment. The employee may be called upon to provide training and implement necessary changes with departments. The work is carried out under the supervision of the Director of GIS and is evaluated through conferences, dossiers and reports, as well as through the successful implementation of automated environments and programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of current data processing technology in hardware, software and various applications. Considerable knowledge of how technology can be integrated into the public sector environment for a variety of applications and purposes. Must have working knowledge of a variety of platforms and systems. Ability to plan and coordinate daily data processing operations; analyze, diagnose and resolve computer hardware and software problems; enter data into the system at the speed and level of accuracy required for the job assigned; develop and maintain effective working relationships with the user; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; willingness to stay current and actively seek out new information and technology in mining and processing work.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Four-year college or university degree with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with two years of work experience in IT operations / administration LAN-WAN, CCNA, MCSE, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities.
